Ensure that an extended height guardrail is fitted if using a platform ladder, or a safety prop is fitted if guardrails are not installed. Falling object control measures must be in place, and the work must be recorded in a site-specific safe work method statement (SWMS). For mobile scaffolds, verify that the scaffold is suitable for the task, guardrails are installed, and the platform height meets safety requirements. Personnel must be trained in mobile scaffold erection, and physical barriers or additional control measures should be in place if working near a live edge.
When using elevated work platforms (e.g., scissor lifts or boom lifts), confirm that the platform height is within safety limits, personnel are trained in operation, and the work area can support the platform's weight. Falling object control measures must be in place, and the work recorded in a SWMS. Ensure that physical barriers are in place if the platform is used near a live edge.
Access equipment must be set up for travel or fall restraint, with rescue procedures developed for fall restraint. Personnel must be trained in the inspection, setup, and use of the equipment, and documentation of inspections by a competent person should be available. Confirm that a suitable anchor point is established, the equipment is suitable for the task, and falling object control measures are in place. The work must also be recorded in a SWMS.
